stories of sanctuary

Sam's most recent project include the Arts Council-funded project Stories of Sanctuary, that brings together refugees and local residents in County Durham through creating songs about experiences of journeying, finding sanctuary and living together in our differences.

The project was launched in June 2018 and the first performance took place at Durham Cathedral, Chapter House, on 19th October 2018 to a sold-out audience of 170. (See photo to the right. Photo credit: Sophie Nimmins)

The album Stories of Sanctuary is released on the 9th November and available to pre-order. The album contains 13 songs that were written over the summer, featuring participants from the project as well as Raghad Haddad, viola player from the National Syrian Orchestra and Paul Martin, multi-instrumentalist from County Durham.

"It was really moving hearing the stories and hearing the voices of those who are often overlooked and unheard, who have actually undergone the dangers of migration/
